Christmas trees to help protect the Ile de Ré`s dunes

By / dimanche 17 janvier 2016 à 14:52 / news @en / No Comments

On the Ile de Ré, Christmas trees are more than festive decorations; they are now being used to protect the island from floods. People on the island can take their old Christmas trees to the local council, where the trees are subsequently chopped up and used to reinforce sand dunes. The branches help protect the dunes from the wind, dunes that are vital in keeping flood water away from the island’s villages. So if you decide to spend Christmas on the Ile de Ré in the future, don’t forget to put your used Christmas tree to good use!
